Ilmenau is a medium-sized town in Thuringia (Germany), located just a 30 minutes drive away from Erfurt. Roughly 27,000 people live here. Many of us study and work at the University. The Ilmenau University of Technology has become popular due to its excellent reputation - so it keeps growing. Ilmenau is also a popular hiking area. Even Johann Wolfgang von Goethe used to hike around Ilmenau. On September 6, 1780 he wrote his famous poem "Wandrer's Nachtlied" right here.
